These past few months there has been a lot of buzz around DC Comics new 52. 52 new number 1 issues that reshapes the DC Universe in some very major ways. With Justice League #1 we are introduced to these changes and what will be the new status quo.
The first page opens up in Gotham City. The police are chasing Batman. There is also a caption that says 5 years ago. For me this puts everything in a kind of perspective. This is how the Justice League came to be.
The issue primarily acts as a teem up book with Batman and Green Lantern investigating the same case. This would also mark the first meeting of the two. Because the case is alien in nature they figure they should check out the latest appearance the being known as Superman. As they trek we see a high school game in progress and the star athlete is Vic Stone, a major player in the future.
As they get to Metropolis Green Lantern boast about aliens being his jurisdiction. As almost on cue he is laid low by Superman leaving only Batman to fend off the super powered Superman.
I like the issue a lot. It sets up the characters nicely, puts you into the new world of the past and lets you know the status of the present. The villain is introduced only through a whisper. so to speak, but it is a good yet ominous introduction.
If you never read DC Comics or you been away for awhile this is a great start. If you are a long time fan that's afraid of change, don't be. Everything seems to be handled with both fun and care.
I give the issue a B+.
